Plain language, not legal boilerplate — what we collect when you request to join, why, and how to ask us to delete it.
What we collect, and why
When you submit a join request, we collect: your name, WhatsApp number, email, your Kerala district and place, your immigration status, your family situation, your Canadian settlement city (or that you're still deciding), and who referred you, if anyone. That's it — nothing more than the form asks for.
We collect it so a real admin can connect you with your city's community group, and confirm your request is genuine before anyone reaches out.
Who sees it
Your submission is visible to MMC admins, and — once your request is approved and forwarded — the community contact for your specific group, so they can actually reach out to you. We don't sell your information, share it with anyone outside this process, or use it for anything beyond connecting you with your community.
Why some requests are flagged
MMC has faced scam and bad-actor attempts before. Every submission is checked against a list of previously flagged requests — matched by phone number or email. Very few ever match.
Separately, when an admin identifies a request as fraudulent, they can add it to that list — keeping the name, phone, email, and claimed Kerala district on file specifically to help catch a repeat attempt.
This is a documented, limited exception for fraud prevention under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) — not a routine practice.
Requesting deletion
You can ask us to delete your submitted information at any time by contacting an MMC admin. We'll honor that request — with one exception: if your information was kept as part of our fraud-prevention process (see above), it stays regardless of a deletion request, since removing it would defeat the purpose it's kept for.
Removing a flagged entry is always an admin's individual judgment call, not automatic.
